A growing force in non-fiction filmmaking, 2017–18 Wexner Center Artist Residency Award recipient Penny Lane returns to present two of her recent projects on the occasion of The Flyover Fest.
An intimate and unflinching act of radical empathy, The Pain of Others is made entirely from YouTube videos by sufferers of Morgellons. Those afflicted with the mysterious illness say that they have parasites under their skin, colored fibers emerging from lesions on their bodies, and a host of other horrific-sounding symptoms. The film carefully sets up an unsettling encounter with a group of “Morgies” who have turned to YouTube for help and to prove they’re not crazy. (71 mins., DCP)
